Each year, at the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop, Sigma Chi headquarters recognizes individual undergraduate and alumni chapters for their exceptional acheivement in certain areas of chapter operations. At this year’s awards ceremony, the Epsilon Kappa Chapter at the University of Memphis was recognized for the following:

Peterson Significant Award (Given to the Top 10% of Sigma Chi Chapters)

Epsilon Kappa has been awarded this honor 7 of the past 8 years!

Legion of Honor Award (Awarded to Top 3 Scholarship Programs in all of Sigma Chi)

Epsilon Kappa has received this prestigious award 4 of the past 6 years!

Outstanding Housing Corp/Alumni Chapter (Given to Top Alumni Chapters in all of Sigma Chi)

We are very grateful for all of the support our local alumni give to the undergraduate chapter!

Brothers attend Leadership Training Workshop

Every summer, Sigma Chi hosts the largest leadership conference in the Greek World: Balfour Leadership Training Workshop (BLTW). This year, 8 of our active brothers were able to attend the workshop and learn more about cultivating leadership within our local chapter. At the conference, our members were able to reconnect with the ritual, receive detailed training on officer responsibilities, and develop a strategic plan for the chapter. This is always a great time to share our best practices with other chapters and help learn from them in order to improve our own operations. All the while, we are able to connect with over 1700 Sigma Chi’s across the North America.

First Cookout for 2011 Summer Rush

We hosted our first Cookout as part of our Summer Recruitment Program on May 25, 2011. We have Summer Rush events every Wednesday night and many other activities going on throughout the summer. Spring Formal in New Orleans

Each year, we host our Spring Formal at the Royal St. Charles Hotel in downtown New Orleans, LA. It is such a great time to get away for a few days and enjoy time with the rest of the chapter and dates. Our actual formal takes place on the first night and then the next day is a great time for members and guests to enjoy the attractions, shopping, and activities that the city of New Orleans has to offer!

Kathleen Boyd named Epsilon Kappa Sweetheart

Congratulations to Kathleen (Katie) Boyd for being named Sigma Chi Sweetheart for the 2011-2012 year! Katie is VP Operations of Kappa Delta Sorority at the U of M, an Emerging Leader, and involved in other organizations on campus and in her community.

Sigma Chi Scholarship Banquet

At our chapter’s annual Scholarship Banquet, held at Spaghetti Warehouse in Downtown Memphis, we recognized those members who maintained high scholastic achievement in their academic work. In addition, we invited parents, family, and other guests and provided a PowerPoint presentation recapping our chapter’s annual activities and accomplishments. Brothers were recognized for their achievement in making 3.0, 3.5, & 4.0 GPAs during the Spring and Fall 2010 semesters. As a new addition to our scholarship program, our chapter now participates in a program called Strive for Pi; which encourages members to maintain a 3.14 (Pi) cumulative GPA.

Recognition was also given to the 32 members that were on the Dean’s List during the 2010 calendar year.

U of M Presidential Leadership Awards

At the annual University of Memphis Presidential Leadership Awards, two of our brothers were recognized for their hard work and leadership on our campus. Senior, Tyler Ricossa was chosen as a member of the Carson Circle; the highest honor a student leader can receive at the U of M. Sophomore, John Stevenson received the Emerging Leader of the Year Award for the Sophomore Class at the U of M.

Secret Swap with Kappa Delta

For our swap this semester, we planned a secret cookout at Audobon Park for the lovely ladies of Kappa Delta. They were told that they were headed to a sisterhood event after chapter meeting and then all showed up to our guys with free food and different park activities planned for the nice afternoon.

Greek Grammys at Annual All-Greek Formal

At the end of each Greek Week, the All Greek Programming Board hosts our annual All-Greek Formal and Greek Grammy Award Ceremonies. This year, Sigma Chi was recognized for both individual members and for the chapter as a whole. The Chapter was honored with the Award for “Excellence in Greek Leadership & Involvement.” Recognition is also given to Senior, Tyler Ricossa, for being named “Best Example of a Greek Gentleman” for the second year in a row, to Freshman, Luke Hooper for having the “Highest New Initiate GPA,” and to Junior, Jason Smith for being named “Most Likely to be on Midland.” Congratulations on yet another very successful year!

Sigma Chi at Shamrock Shootout

Some of the active brothers and pledges with Sweetheart and Kappa Delta Coach at Kappa Delta’s annual Shamrock Shootout Philanthropy. Our basketball team, comprised of Michael Bolin, Jake Walker, and Jacob Pierce, placed 2nd overall in the 3-on-3 tournament. Congratulations guys!
